Dr. Chris joined our practice in September 2013. She is a Medical Doctor (M.D.) and now a medical acupuncturist specializing in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, neuropathy, chronic health issues especially in the geriatric population, immune disorders, digestive problems, insomnia, and anxiety.
Dr. Chris completed her medical training at University of Florida College of Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She worked for five years in her chosen fields and then began to search for more.
Dr Chris had a positive experience with acupuncture during med school, which fueled her curiosity to learn more. She decided to take up formal study of this ancient medicine and completed the program Medical Acupuncture for Physicians taught by Dr. Joseph Helms through the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. First melding her training with her traditional medical practice and then converting solely to acupuncture, Dr. Chris is thrilled to have joined her colleagues at Indian River Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine.
How does Dr. Chris feel about her decision to leave medicine and practice acupuncture? “My medical training was incredible and I enjoyed my traditional practice, but I know the limitations. There are times when Western medicine has no more to offer or when side effects outweigh benefits. Through acupuncture, I am making a bigger impact on people’s health and well-being.” Dr. Chris sees patients on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays beginning at 9:00am. Her schedule fills up quickly so call for an appointment with her today!
